Acclaimed filmmaker SS Rajamouli, known for epic blockbusters like Baahubali and RRR, has publicly praised content creator Ashish Chanchlani for his recently released series, Ekaki, calling the project highly “promising.”
Rajamouli specifically highlighted the technical and narrative ambitions of the series, particularly a clever shift in genre.
The ‘Clever Twist’ from Horror to Sci-Fi
The celebrated director took to social media to share his appreciation, recalling a recent meeting with Chanchlani during his Varanasi event.
“Met Ashish during the Varanasi event and now Iam happy to see him with his own fully written, produced, and self-made series. #Ekaki looks promising… Especially the genre shift from horror to sci-fi. A clever twist. All the best @ashchanchlani!!” Rajamouli wrote.
The series reportedly begins with a group of friends visiting the mysterious Ekaki Villa for a weekend, only for the fun getaway to turn eerie due to strange haunting incidents. Rajamouli’s comment indicates the horror elements pivot into a science-fiction plot point.
Chanchlani: ‘Biggest Achievement’
Ashish Chanchlani, who took on multiple roles for Ekaki—as writer, director, producer, and actor—responded to the praise with gratitude, calling the director’s reaction a “dream come true.”
“Rajamouli sir, thank you for your guidance and your kind words. Its truly a dream come true for someone like me to hear this from you. Your reaction to it was my biggest achievement. Love you sir,” Chanchlani stated.
Chanchlani had earlier detailed the rigorous and challenging journey of bringing Ekaki to life, which involved seven months of pre-production, 80 days of shooting, and another seven months in post-production. He expressed his hope that the audience enjoys the series as much as the team enjoyed creating it.
