HBO Max unveiled the footage as part of its 2026 slate promo, which featured quick glimpses of several upcoming titles. The teaser confirms the next chapter of the Targaryen civil war will plunge Westeros into even greater darkness, promising immense battles and bloodshed.
The Battle of the Gullet and Key Plot Hints
Season 3 is expected to deliver on massive action sequences, notably kicking off with the long-awaited Battle of the Gullet—a huge naval conflict in Westeros history that was initially planned for the conclusion of Season 2 but was postponed.
Key plot hints from the footage include:
- Alicent’s Warning: Alicent Hightower (played by Olivia Cooke) is heard issuing a grim prediction, stating: “Rhaenyra will do what she has to do. And what she has to do will be dire.”
- Corlys Velaryon’s Urgency: Lord Corlys Velaryon is seen urging Rhaenyra to make a decisive choice about the war for the Iron Throne, indicating the conflict is rapidly escalating.

House of the Dragon Season 3 is slated to premiere in Summer 2026. This series is confirmed to conclude with a fourth and final season planned for 2028. Additionally, the spin-off series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will debut ahead of HotD Season 3 on January 18, 2026.
