New Delhi: Social activist Sonam Wangchuk has ended his 26-day hunger strike after a meeting with Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. The ministers visited Wangchuk and appealed to him to end his fast, assuring him that the government would continue discussions on the issues he had raised. Wangchuk had launched the indefinite hunger strike on June 28, demanding accountability over alleged examination irregularities and seeking assurances that no punitive action would be taken against students and protesters involved in the movement. His health deteriorated during the protest, leading to his transfer from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta Hospital following a Delhi High Court order.
video released after the meeting showed Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh helping Wangchuk break his fast by offering him water. His wife, Gitanjali Angmo, was also present during the moment. Government representatives said they would continue dialogue on the demands raised during the protest.
